The Grounding Power of Gratitude
As we move into November, with the American holiday of Thanksgiving, we remind ourselves to practice gratitude.
We are asked to adopt an “attitude of gratitude”, yet gratitude is more than a positive mindset.
It is a nervous system practice.
When we acknowledge what is supporting us, even in small ways, our body receives the message that it is safe.
Our breath deepens.
Our shoulders lower.
Our internal pace recalibrates.
Gratitude does not require us to ignore discomfort or pretend that everything is perfect. Rather, it helps us hold both truth and tenderness.
We can honor grief, uncertainty, or transition — and still anchor in what is steady, life-giving, or quietly sustaining beneath it all.
How does Gratitude support Emotional Wellness?
It shifts the body from a stress response into regulation and receptivity.
It retrains the brain to notice sufficiency, not just danger or lack.
It restores a sense of choice, grounding us in the present moment rather than future fear.
It reconnects us to meaning, which strengthens resilience during times of change.
Wishing you a month of grounded gratitude — we at IHC are thankful to work with you and support you on your healing journey.
